Trainer's Profile

Cheng Chee Yuen

Mr Cheng Chee Yuen is currently a Senior Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). He obtained his bachelor's degree in 1998 from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Mr Cheng started his involvement in industrial lasers since 1998. As a Project/Manufacturing Engineer, his involvement included laser alignment, test and integration with automation equipment as well as laser process optimization. After joining NP in 2010, he was tasked to oversee and manage the Centre of Applied Photonics & Laser Technology and the safe use of laser apparatus, which included implementing the laser safety control measures and working with NEA on the laser licencing requirements. Currently, he is the course leader managing the Basic Laser Radiation Safety short course in NP.

Matthew Philip

Mr Matthew Philip graduated with a BSc from the National University of Singapore in 1992.  He joined STMicroelectronics as a Process Engineer at the end of 1992 where he worked in the Etch and Photolithography modules of STMicroelectronics’ MOS Fab in Ang Mo Kio. After 3 years with STMicroelectronics, Mr Matthew left to further his studies in Microelectronics at Newcastle University, UK in 1995. He graduated with an MSc (Electronics) with Distinction in 1996. Mr Matthew joined Ngee Ann Polytechnic as a Lecturer in 1997.  He is now a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and the Module Leader of the Photonics module which deals with laser safety.

R. K. Malar

Ms R. K. Malar is currently a Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). She obtained her Msc. Photonics in 2006 from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Ms Malar started her career as an Optical Design Engineer to design laser optics and worked as a trainer for ZEMAX, an optical design software. After joining NP in 2008, she was one of the Photonics project cluster members and supervised final year student projects which involved the use of lasers.

Goh Yeow Whatt

Mr Goh Yeow Whatt is currently a Senior Manager and Senior Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), School of Engineering. He obtained his Master of Engineering degree from National University of Singapore. Before joining NP in 2011, he has been working in the Semiconductor, Photonics and Laser-related industries for more than 18 years. He started his career with NUS-A*Star Laser Processing Center, experience in laser setup and optimization, laser processing and applications (cutting, engraving, cleaning, deposition, and emission diagnostics).

Lim Han Leong

Dr Lim Han Leong is currently a Senior Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). He obtained his PhD from Nanyang Technological University in 2008 with a thesis in Femtosecond Laser. He has 3 years of experience in machine vision in the semiconductor industry and 2 years in laser barcode scanners manufacturing before joining NP, where he obtained more than $600k research grants in the field of laser research as a Principal Investigator.

Tan Yeow Chong

Mr Tan Yeow Chong is currently a Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). He graduated with Bachelor’s degree (hons) in 2008, and obtained Master of Engineering (by research) in 2010, from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.  Mr Tan has 6 years’ work experience in the semi-conductor manufacturing industry, where he has worked with optical and laser equipment for wafer process development, process integration, and failure analysis.
