Course Information

Gain a clear understanding of the common legal pitfalls in real estate transactions and learn how to navigate or avoid them.

Learning Outcomes

The real estate professional will be able to do the following after the course:

  • understand the common legal pitfalls faced by fellow salespersons in the industry and be able to identify and avoid these pitfalls.
  • understand the various dispute resolution methods available to them and be equipped with the relevant know-how to effectively manage and resolve legal pitfalls as and when they encounter them through the use of negotiation, mediation, arbitration or litigation
  • learn about the complaint process of the Council for Estate Agencies
  • be introduced to the negotiation process
  • understand and identify basic negotiation techniques

Trainer's Profile

Laurence Kuek

Laurence is a Senior Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and he has a dynamic delivery style coupled with strong facilitation skills. He believes that every person can be empowered to realize his/her potential.                    

His training and facilitation spans over 38 years of experience. Besides training for private sector organisations like airlines, banks, hotels, travel agencies, transport companies, shipyards, professional bodies, and educational institutions, he has also trained for government bodies like schools, grassroots organisations, ministries and statutory boards.

He has conducted training in Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Greece, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and USA. He has designed and conducted a diverse range of training programmes in areas such as Solution-Focused Sales Approach, Effective Negotiation, Facilitation, Teambuilding, Motivation and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Laurence also trains polytechnic lecturers in teaching & learning strategies through courses coordinated by Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Patrick Tan

Patrick Tan is the Founder and CEO of Fortis Law Corporation.

His areas of practice includes dispute resolution, real estate and private client matters. He is a Notary Public, Commissioner for Oaths, a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, as well as an accredited Associate Mediator appointed by the Singapore Mediation Centre. He also currently serves as a Volunteer Mediator at the State Courts of Singapore as well as an Independent Director of a mainboard listed company on the SGX. Patrick is also a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Patrick is an approved CPD Trainer by CEA and legal adviser to the Singapore Estate Agents Association and the Spa and Wellness Association Singapore.

Certification

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement and pass all required assessment(s).


A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement but did not pass all required assessment(s).


Real Estate Salespersons will be awarded 4 Professional CPD Credits upon completion of the course.


Entry Requirements

Applicants should preferably be a registered Real Estate Salesperson with Council for Estate Agencies.

Applicants interested in acquiring the necessary legal knowledge in order to avoid pitfalls so as to stay professional and better serve his/her clients.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 28 May 2021 to 30 Sep 2024.

SkillsFuture Credit
