The Professional Conversion Programme for Registered Nurses (Diploma) [PCP-RN (Diploma)] helps and supports mid-career Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) in acquiring relevant training to be Registered Nurses.
The PCP-RN (Diploma) is one of the mid-career conversion programmes under the Healthcare PCP umbrella that is offered by WSG, in conjunction with Ministry of Health (MOH) and supported by MOH Holdings.
Funding will be provided by WSG, MOH and a co-sponsoring organisation for successful candidates to undergo the 2-year Diploma in Nursing (Accelerated) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) for the October intake.

The general roles of nurses include assessing patients’ physical and mental health, performing clinical procedures, helping patients improve or maintain their health and educating patients and their families on health matters. They work alongside a team of professionals to provide safe and smooth delivery of patient care every day. Thus, teamwork, communication skills and attention to details are some of the key qualities that a nurse should possess.
In the healthcare sector, the monthly gross starting salary (median)* for a Registered Nurse with diploma qualifications is around $2,500. Upon completion, you will be eligible for registration with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) and obtain the licence to practise as a professional nurse. You can also expect progression in your career through various structured career pathways (e.g. clinical, education, managerial tracks) as you gain experience and expertise.
*Comprises basic salary, fixed allowances and overtime pay. Does not include bonuses and increments for Honours or National Service for eligible males.
At the end of the PCP-RN (Diploma) course, graduates will be able to:
(a) demonstrate understanding, knowledge, accountability and responsibility of the legal obligations for nursing practice;
(b) demonstrate and maintain ethical nursing practice;
(c) provide culturally appropriate and holistic care;
(d) maintain safe environment through the use of quality assurance and risk management strategies;
(e) apply strategies to promote health and prevent illnesses;
(f) demonstrate effective managerial and leadership skills with effective communication;
(g) use principles of quality improvement and incorporate them into nursing practice;
(h) demonstrate accountability for one’s development and status as a professional Registered Nurse; and
(i) demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills in research in different healthcare settings.

Shortlisted applications will be required to attend an interview at MOH Holdings (May 2021 – July 2021).
Following the interview, shortlisted applicants will be notified by the potential sponsoring organisation to attend a compulsory 1-day clinical observation with the organisation.
2. Clinical Practicum

This course consists of 21 modules:
This module traces the development of nursing from the Florence Nightingale era to contemporary nursing practice, globally and in Singapore. Students are introduced to concepts and theories in professional nursing practice. The Nursing Process framework in development of care plans will be introduced. Students will also be presented with keys concepts of clinical reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving in making clinical decisions.
This module equips students with entry level nursing knowledge and skills to care for patients and meet their basic health needs. Students learn essential skills necessary to enable them to practise fundamental nursing skills and provide care for patients with common surgical conditions.
This module provides students with an understanding of the biological basis of human diseases. It will introduce the cell, cellular organisation and organ systems. It will also provide students with knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal and urinary, haematology, and immune systems.
This module provides students with an overview of sociology and psychology, with a focus on understanding how behavioural sciences are applied to healthcare practice. It also gives students an insight into the psychological and social perspectives on health and illness.
This module provides an integrated coverage of pathophysiology, medical and nursing care management, and pharmacological treatment of common cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal and urinary, hepatobiliary, vascular and musculoskeletal disorders. The principles for safe drug administration and use of the nursing process framework to avoid drug errors will be emphasized. The module will be taught using a systems, scenario-based, and interdisciplinary approach.
This module allows students to practise basic nursing care, provide preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care in meeting patients’ health needs. Students will have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learnt at levels 1.1 into clinical practice in various healthcare settings. They will be assigned to surgical disciplines for 5 weeks.
This module will provide students with an understanding of the biological basis of human diseases. It will provide students with knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the nervous, reproductive, sensory, integumentary and endocrine systems of the human body. It will also introduce the basic principles of microbiology and principles of infection control.
This module equips students with the fundamental nursing knowledge and skills to provide preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care in meeting patients’ health needs. Students learn these essential skills to implement timely interventions and care plans for patients who suffer from common medical- surgical, obstetric and gynaecological and paediatric conditions.
This module covers the comprehensive diseases processes and patient care management for patients in obstetrics, gynaecological and paediatric settings.
This module provides an integrated coverage of the pathophysiology, medical and nursing care management, and pharmacological treatment of common reproductive, endocrine, neurological, immunological, integumentary and sensory disorders. The module will be taught using a systems, scenario-based, and interdisciplinary approach.
This module explores treatment modalities, legal and ethical issues related to mental health nursing and the role of the psychiatric nurse in caring for patients and families in the hospital and community. In addition, the students will also learn to plan and deliver palliative care nursing and end-of-life care to patients in both acute and community settings.
This module allows students to provide preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care in meeting patients’ health needs. Students will have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learnt at Levels
Note: 1.1 and 1.2 into clinical practice in specialised healthcare settings. They will be assigned to the mental health and paediatrics (male students only) and mental health and paediatrics or obstetrics & gynaecology disciplines (female students only) for 2 weeks each (total 4 weeks).
This module provides an integrated coverage the pathophysiology, medical and nursing management and pharmacological treatment of patients requiring emergency and perioperative care. Students will learn how to provide acute, transitional and long term care for patients in the community. This module will be taught using a systems, scenario-based, and interdisciplinary approach.
This module equips students with fundamental nursing knowledge and skills to provide preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care in meeting patient’s health needs. Students learn to co-ordinate and manage patient care in a variety of health care settings. This module also equips students with skills to care for patients requiring emergency and perioperative care, and providing acute, transitional and long- term care for patients in the community setting.
This module introduces the basic concepts and skills in research and statistical analysis so that students are able to understand and critically evaluate evidence and data to support their clinical practice. Topics will include research design, data collection methods, literature searching strategies, basic statistical analysis and good clinical practice guidelines.
This module provides students with an understanding of the Singapore healthcare system, health informatics and organisation of nursing services. An overview of quality assurance, occupational health and risk management strategies in clinical practice will be covered. Effective managerial and leadership skills in the provision of nursing care will also be explored. Students will develop accountability through personal and professional development.
This module involves the systematic examination and application of nursing care for the elderly. The role of the community nurse will also be explored. In addition, the students will acquire the knowledge and skills to employ the nursing process to plan illness/disease preventive strategies for the individuals, families and the community at large. Students are encouraged to develop a reflective approach to nursing practice in caring for the elderly in various health care settings.
This module involves the systematic examination and application of the laws that govern nursing practice, explore ethical principles and moral standards of conduct. Topics include the legal system in Singapore, the legislative framework, the role of the SNB and its regulatory functions; the SNB Code for Nurses and Midwives and ethical decision-making process which have an implication on nursing practice.
This module allows students to provide holistic patient care in meeting patients’ health needs. Students will have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learnt at Levels 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1 into clinical practice in various healthcare settings. This module will prepare the students for their Pre-Registration Consolidation Practice. They will be assigned to the medical discipline for 6 weeks.
This module allows students to provide primary, emergency, gerontology and rehabilitative care in meeting patients’ health needs. Students will have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learnt at Levels 1.1, 1.2, 2.1 into clinical practice in various healthcare settings. Students will be assigned to specialised settings, i.e. Community Health for 2 weeks, Emergency Department for 1 week and Intermediate and Long-term Care facilities for 4 weeks (Total 7 weeks).
This module allows students to provide care to individuals with diseases and illnesses across a lifespan in a hospital setting. Students should apply the knowledge and skills learnt to clinical practice. The students are required to complete a two-week in-campus intensive preparation program and a 10-week Pre-Registration Consolidation Practice in a medical or surgical discipline. This module provides an opportunity for students to consolidate and refine their skills and knowledge gained over the three years of study.
Entry requirements for PCP-RN (Diploma) are as follows.
(a) General PCP Eligibility Criteria:
- Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
- Minimum age of 21 years; and
- Graduated from full-time studies or completed National Service for at least two years (whichever is most recent), prior to the course commencement date.
(b) Other Entry Requirements:
- Bachelor degree from a recognised university in a discipline other than nursing; or
- Local polytechnic diploma in a discipline other than nursing; or
- 3 GCE ‘A’ level credits* with 2 GCE ‘O’ level credits^ in a Science subject and Mathematics (*GCE ‘A’ level credits refer to grades A to E ^GCE ‘O’ level credits refer to grades A1 to C6)
(c) Meeting the above requirements does not guarantee enrolment into the PCP. Admission is based on a holistic assessment of the candidate and subject to other requirements including clearing the medical test and securing sponsorship from a participating organisation.
Course fees will be fully sponsored. Trainees will receive training allowances ranging from $1,700 to $2,050 per month, pegged to their years of prior work experiences, throughout the training period.
