This course will help you gain knowledge and skills to attend to anyone in distress. PFA is a simple and cost-effective approach to help others who are experiencing psychological tension. In building people’s own capacity and emotional resilience to recover psychologically, the psychological first aider can help reduce initial distress and promote flexible coping to overcome the crisis.
Research shows that psychological first aid reduces the risk of mental health deterioration post-crisis. It has widespread appeal as it can be safely delivered by individuals without professional mental health training. This course is jointly organised by NP CET Academy and KALL Psychology.
After this course, you will be able to:
- Explain Psychological First Aid principles and action steps.
- Recognise common mental health problems in workplace and social situations.
- Provide emotional support for distressed persons with empathic communication skills.
- Define the process of signposting distressed persons to further professional mental health support.
- Identify personal self-care strategies for on-going sustainable practice.
