Course Information

This is a basic/intermediate course for learners to pursue an entry-level career as student care coaches within the social services sector.

Do you enjoy working with children and would like to join the student services sector? Our fast-track Student Services & Coaching Bootcamp will help you gain professional qualifications and level up your skills in a short time!

Through this bootcamp, you will learn to work effectively with children and their parents, as well as acquire programme planning and centre management skills. You will also receive training in the areas of Special Needs.

Learning Outcomes

You will gain an understanding of a child’s development and its implications on student services and practices. You will also learn strategies to manage students, including challenging behaviours as well as mentoring and coaching tools to build rapport with students.

Through a capstone project, you will get to design effective programmes that will enhance students’ learning and character development. You will also acquire supervisory skills to lead and mentor staff at student services centres as well as managerial skills to oversee and improve operations and efficiency at student services centres.

Lesson Plan

Understanding Student Services

Introduces major theories in child development and their implications on general student care practices and programme implementation. It also equips you with knowledge of basic measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.

Managing Challenging Behaviour

Covers a various developmental issues faced by school-going children (including special needs) and examine the causes of challenging behaviour. This module also trains you on how to develop and implement basic behavioural strategies based on this understanding.

Managing Classroom and Group Behaviour

Covers effective classroom management techniques so as to provide an orderly and conducive learning environment for students. You will also be introduced to Group Theory and Group Dynamics Theory and learn facilitation skills to effectively manage and moderate group activities.

Developing and Implementing Effective Programmes

Introduces a systematic framework of programme development which will guide you in the stages of needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Managing Stakeholders: Engaging Parents & Community

Covers an understanding of the various roles a student care professional plays in working with children, families, other professionals in the community in the holistic care of students. You will learn strategies to engage and partner families and community stakeholders in supporting the overall care of students.

Enhancing Centre and Human Resource Management

Introduces you to a range of processes that will help to support the operation and human resource management at their centres. This module examines the rationales and effectiveness of the current operations and identifies ways to develop more effective processes to improve the overall efficiency of the centre. Legal and ethical considerations in student care practices are also addressed in this module.

Special Needs Education Module

This module will give participants insights into special needs education.

Project Work @ Student Care Centres

This module requires the participants to work in team to secure a partnership with a student service centre/organization to work on a project in addressing an identified need of the centre/organization. This provides the participants the opportunity to synthesise knowledge and skills acquired from the modules and apply on a project in the context of student services.


At the end of the bootcamp, you will receive a Diploma (Conversion) in Student Care and Coaching and more importantly, you will gain greater confidence and recognition as a student services professional.

Certificate will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass assessments.

Entry Requirements

  1. Local Polytechnic Diploma / state-recognized University Degree in any discipline where the medium of instruction is English and with at least 1 year working experience.
  2. Recognition of prior learning. At least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Shortlisted suitable applicants may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Course Fees

Trainees must fulfil minimum attendance requirements and pass assessments to qualify for course fee subsidies.

Trainees who are unable to meet these requirements may be asked to return the course fee subsidies that they have received.

Full Course Fees: (incl. GST): $12,840

Funding period for this course is from 9 Sep 2020 to 31 Mar 2022.
