Course Objectives

The aim of this module is to equip participants with sufficient mastery of a programming language to perform operations and analysis. This module is suitable for learners with little or no programming background. The programming language taught is Python, which is fast becoming the world’s most popular coding language due to its simplicity and flexibility. Its popularity also stems largely due to its wide range of application in areas such as machine learning, network automation, and internet of things. The module highlights the syntactical and algorithmic aspect of programming to participants. Learners will be able to code using Python, from basic to complex algorithms progressively.

Course Description

Programming for Analytics - Part of Post Diploma Certificate in Programming for Analytics and Data Visualisation (SDDA1) is a 75hrs module. In this module, you will:
1. Master the basics of Python programming.
2. Perform operations and analysis using Python.
3. Understand Python’s syntax and algorithms.
4. Progress from basic to complex coding tasks.

  • Local Polytechnic Diploma in any discipline
    or
  • Recognised University Degree in any discipline
    or
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience


  • Learners enrolled into the course are expected to bring along their personal laptop.
  • Basic IT literacy, including operating system navigation, digital file management (creating, saving, organizing), and the use of standard productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace), is expected of participants.
    In addition, you must be adept at using web browsers for research and communicating through email and video conferencing technologies (MS Teams).

  • RAM: 16 GB (32 GB recommended)
  • Storage: 1 TB Solid State Drive (SSD) or above

  • Graphics: Dedicated graphics card with 8 GB VRAM or above
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11
  • I/O Ports (required for your course): HDMI
  • Peripherals: Portable Solid-State Drive (SSD) 512 GB
