Course Information

The Singapore real estate market is influenced by numerous factors, such as government policies, economic conditions and global trends. The role of an RES is crucial as he or she is expected to have a good knowledge of these factors and ensure legal compliance in order to promote a high standard of service and professionalism in the real estate industry and best serve the needs of their clients.

The RES course is a prerequisite to taking the Real Estate Salesperson (RES) Examination. Upon passing this mandatory examination and fulfilment of all other requirements laid down by the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA), participants are eligible to apply for RES registration.  

In an interactive session, participants will learn the basic competency and knowledge about the real estate agency industry and property-related matters. Through practical case studies and useful assessments, participants will deepen their understanding the real estate market and their role as an RES and how they can contribute to a highly dynamic market both professionally and ethically.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Familiarise with the RES Examination syllabus and the learning objectives set-out by Council for Estate Agencies (CEA)
  2. Understand knowledge of real estate market and real estate concepts including real estate law, real estate planning and development control so as to be a professional salesperson
  3. Familiarise with the current real estate policies and regulations
  4. Understand the ethics and apply best practices in estate agency work.

Trainer's Profile

Alex Chan

Alex is currently the Vice President (Investments) with Creed Corporation, a Japanese real estate private equity (PE) fund. He has more than 8 years of experience in the PE industry and has done real estate development, investments and fund-raising work.

Alex also has experience in the hospitality industry where he first started with Far East Hospitality Management and was doing business development for the department, which led to expansion in Asia Pacific. Thereafter, he was with Pan Pacific Hotels Group in the Growth and Development department. He specializes in conducting feasibility studies and sourcing for potential hotel acquisitions.

Alex has an ACLP certification and has conducted several masterclasses for Real Estate Business students in NP where he has taught students real estate investment and discounted cashflow models.

Alex graduated with a Master in Real Estate from University of Reading and a Bachelor of Business Management (Finance & Management) from Singapore Management University.

Josephine Tan

Ms. Tan Geok Ling Josephine graduated from the University of London with an LL.B (Hons) and was admitted to the Malaysia Bar in 1997. Apart from having practiced as an Advocate & Solicitor in Malaysia, she also served as in-house legal counsel in two multinational corporations. 

Ms. Josephine honed her understanding of the law through diverse work experiences, including serving as a condominium manager and teaching Real Estate Law in the School of Design & Environment at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.  

She is currently a Business Law lecturer at the School of Business & Accountancy at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and is looking forward to contributing her wealth of knowledge and working experience to the Real Estate Salesperson Course.

Lim Li Li

Li Li has more than 20 years professional experience in the real estate industry having held portfolios as a property manager, leasing manager and marketing manager for various properties.

Li Li is currently a lecturer/ senior manager with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) with more than 15 years of teaching experience. During her time, she has taught modules such as Shopping all & Strata Management, Real Estate Marketing, Principles of Law and Client Relationship management.

Li Li graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Estate Management from National University of Singapore.

Tan Kok Ling

Kok Ling is currently a senior lecturer with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) with more than 15 years of teaching experience. His specialisation is in Property Valuation. Prior to joining the education industry, he had more than 20 years of professional experience in valuation.

Kok Ling is also the Course Chair for Real Estate Business Diploma in the School of Design and Environment, NP. During his 15 years in NP, he has developed and taught modules such as Property Valuation, Real Estate Investment and Urban Planning and Sustainability.

Kok Ling graduated with a Master of Science (Real Estate) from National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Estate Management from National University of Singapore.

Kenny Tan

Kenny is currently a lecturer/senior manager with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and specializes real estate investment and finance and urban planning. Prior to joining NP, had more than 10 years of professional experience in the public service. He was a senior valuer in IRAS, specializing in property tax and furthered his experience by joining HDB to work on credits, loan and policy issues.

To widen his life experience, he was also an entrepreneur where he started a fine jewellery company.

Kenny graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Real Estate from National University of Singapore.

Paul Chang

Paul is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and have practised at the law firm of Cooma, Lau & Loh & M Karthigesu (corporate law, intellectual property law, litigation, etc). 

Paul is currently a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business & Accountancy (BA), Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Module Leader for Law & Governance. He was the Module Group Leader of the Law Team at the School of BA for a great number of years.  He teaches Business Law, Company Law & Secretarial Practice, Tourism Law, and Law and Governance at School of BA.

He had obtained the Degree of Bachelor of Laws, Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from the National University of Singapore, and also the Degree of Master of Laws from the National University of Singapore.  

Pow Ying Khuan

Ying Khuan is currently a lecturer with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and specializes in research and data analytics.  Prior to joining NP, he had a varied professional experience in the real estate industry. He started off as a research analyst for SRX before moving on to Knight Frank Asia Pacific. With his research experience, he went on to Rockworth Capital Partners and eventually became the Head of Research and Data Operations Lead in 99.CO.

Ying Khuan graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Real Estate from National University of Singapore.

Steven Lim

Steven is an award-winning Senior Lecturer in Law with the School of Business and Accountancy (BA) of Ngee Ann Polytechnic.  He is currently the Programme Lead for the Business Studies (Entrepreneurship Management Option) course offered by BA in collaboration with the Singapore Sports School.  He held the appointment of the Course Chair (Joint Programmes) for over 10 years and oversaw the Common Business Programme and the Joint Programmes offered by BA and the School of Engineering and the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. 

He is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.  Prior to joining the academia in 1997, Steven was in legal practice for 10 years as a partner in a law firm specialising in conveyancing, property and commercial law and a legal officer in a statutory board.  As BA’s Industry Lead for Law, Steven has been actively developing and customising training for the public and private sectors for more than two decades.   

Entry Requirements

 

  1. Be at least 21 years old;
  2. Singaporean or SPR (If you are a Foreigner, you need to meet the CEA’s requirements listed in the FAQs before signing up for this course); and
  3. Possess one of the Singapore Academic Qualifications listed below.
  • ITE Higher Nitec / Master Nitec; or
  • 4 GCE ‘O’ level subject passes in two sittings (C6 & above); or
  • 4 GCE ‘A’ level subjects taken in two sittings (C6 & above); or
  • Diploma(s) from the LOCAL polytechnics (NYP, NP, SP, TP, RP); or
  • Degree(s) from the LOCAL universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SUSS, SIT); or
  • Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) with all 5 modules level 5 and above.
  • For individuals who possess Private or Foreign Qualifications, please be informed that you need to get your qualification(s) approved by CEA before you register for the RES course. (Please see FAQs for more information)

SkillsFuture Credit
