Course Objectives

This module introduces the basic concepts of relations, functions, matrices and their applications relevant to IT professionals. The primary purpose of this module is to help learners increase their problem-solving capability. Topics covered include Sets, Relations & Functions, Matrices and fundamentals of statistics and probability.

Course Description

Computing Mathematics Fundamentals - Part of Modular Certificate in Computing Fundamentals (DFSD) is a 30hrs module. In this module, you will:
1. Understand the basic concepts of relations, functions, and matrices.
2. Learn about sets, relations, and functions.
3. Gain knowledge in matrices and their applications.
4. Cover the fundamentals of statistics and probability.

  • NITEC in Technology/Services with GPA >= 3.5
    AND
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience
Higher NITEC in Technology/Services
  • Higher NITEC in Technology/Services with GPA >=2.0
    AND
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience
WSQ
  • Relevant Advanced WSQ Certificate (or higher)
    AND
  • Level 6 WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA
    AND
  • Workplace Numeracy SOA

  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience
Do not possess any of the above qualifications
  • Applicants with at least 2 years of relevant working experience may apply for the course


  • Learners enrolled into the course are expected to bring along their personal laptop.
  • Basic IT literacy, including operating system navigation, digital file management (creating, saving, organizing), and the use of standard productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace), is expected of participants.
    In addition, you must be adept at using web browsers for research and communicating through email and video conferencing technologies (MS Teams).
