Course Information

Acquire knowledge on the fundamentals of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and design and installation of standalone and grid-connected PV systems.

Learning Outcomes

What you will learn about the key fundamentals of the solar photovoltaic (PV) technology from this course, including the ability to apply the knowledge to the design and installation of stand-alone and grid-connected PV systems inclusive of design criteria for lightning protection for a PV system.

Trainer's Profile

Xueyan Li

Xueyan holds two Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering: one in Digital Signal Processing (University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, US) and another one in Power Engineering (University of South Florida, US). She has many years of working experience in the solar PV industry. Before joining polytechnic, she was a principal engineer in the solar company REC.

She now is a lecturer in the School of Engineering, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Dr Tey Leong Hua


Dr. Tey is currently the Deputy Director in the School of Engineering, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

He acted as a co-PI for many research funding worth around $1.6M. He had the entry-level certification for PV installers from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners and other certificates for basic and advance PV design and installation. He was also a Green Mark Professional (GMP). He has vast experience in many aspects of PV systems. He is also involved in the national solar repository (NSR) initiated by EDB of Singapore.

Mr Chan Chee Hin

Mr. Chan obtained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Master in Building Science from the University of Singapore. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Singapore since 1981 and an EMA Licensed High Voltage Electrical Engineer. He has been working as M & E consultant for many years since graduation. He was a member of the Working Group on Electrical Installation in the preparation of the Singapore Standard Code of Practice for Electrical Installations SS: 638: 2018, and also a member of the Technical Committee on Power Systems and Utilization which is responsible for the preparation of Singapore Standards related to power systems and the utilization.

He is a regular speaker for the mandatory EMA Refresher Course for Licensed Electrical Technicians and Engineers.

Certification

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to learner who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to learner who meet the 75% attendance requirement.


Learners registered with professional bodies will be awarded the following:

– 11 PEB PDUs


Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for Mechanical and Electrical technicians, assistant engineers and engineers who are interested to acquire the knowledge of photovoltaic technology and learn how to design PV systems.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 1 Jul 2023 to 30 Sep 2024.
