Supporting our adult learners achieve their goals to grow, upskill and transit to new careers

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying,

sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”

Pele

Ask any adult learner about their learning journey, and most will say it has not been an easy path. Having to juggle work, study and family is a constant struggle for most adult learners.

And because we know that the adult learning journey is challenging, we at NP CET Academy, are constantly looking for opportunities to better support our adult learners upskill, grow and transit to new careers.

Late in 2020, we embarked on the Adult Learners 360 study to better understand our strengths as well as opportunities to enhance the learning experiences of our adult learners. This study was conducted in partnership with our andragogy experts at our Centre for Learning & Teaching Excellence and the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning# based in the US.  60 adult educators and 80 adult learners had participated in the study. Three key strengths were appreciated by our adult educators and learners alike. Two relate to our teaching and learning process and outcomes, and one on how we have been able to tap on technology to enhance learning.

Heartened by the findings of the study, we decided to pen this post to express our appreciation to our adult learners and also to reiterate our continued commitment to their success. Watch out for the next blog post on opportunities conveyed by the study that NP CET Academy will be working on to enhance the learning and career support of our adult learners.

Notes:

*Assessment of Learning Outcomes: Defines and assesses the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired by adult learners — both from the curriculum and from life and work experience — in order to assign credit and confer degrees with rigour.

*Teaching-Learning Process: Faculty uses multiple methods of instruction (including experiential and problem-based methods) for adult learners in order to connect curricular concepts to useful knowledge and skills.

*Technology: Uses technology to provide relevant and timely information and to enhance the learning experience.
