Trainer's Profile

Phua Tan Tee

Dr Phua Tan Tee is a senior consultant in National Environment Agency. He obtained his PhD in 1982 from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA. Dr Phua started his involvement in radiation protection work in Singapore since 1983, ensuring the safe use of ionizing radiation apparatus and radioactive materials. In 1986, he was tasked to look into control of non-ionising radiation in Singapore. Appointed as Head of nonionizing radiation from 1992 till February 2008, he was tasked to oversee the licensing & control for the safe use of non-ionizing radiation apparatus, supervising and enforcing NIR program under the Act. In March 2008, he was back to the Ionizing Radiation Control Unit as Head of the unit in the Radiation Protection & Nuclear Science Department in National Environment Agency. He was appointed as Senior Consultant in RPNSD in 2013.

Cheng Chee Yuen

Mr Cheng Chee Yuen is currently a Senior Lecturer in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). He obtained his bachelor's degree in 1998 from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Mr Cheng started his involvement in industrial lasers since 1998. As a Project/Manufacturing Engineer, his involvement included laser alignment, test and integration with automation equipment as well as laser process optimization. After joining NP in 2010, he was tasked to oversee and manage the Centre of Applied Photonics & Laser Technology and the safe use of laser apparatus, which included implementing the laser safety control measures and working with NEA on the laser licencing requirements. Currently, he is the course leader managing the Basic Laser Radiation Safety short course in NP.

Matthew Philip

Mr Matthew Philip graduated with a BSc from the National University of Singapore in 1992.  He joined STMicroelectronics as a Process Engineer at the end of 1992 where he worked in the Etch and Photolithography modules of STMicroelectronics’ MOS Fab in Ang Mo Kio. After 3 years with STMicroelectronics, Mr Matthew left to further his studies in Microelectronics at Newcastle University, UK in 1995. He graduated with an MSc (Electronics) with Distinction in 1996. Mr Matthew joined Ngee Ann Polytechnic as a Lecturer in 1997.  He is now a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and the Module Leader of the Photonics module which deals with laser safety.

R.K.Malar
