Course Information

Learn how to control Pneumatic and Electrical components when using the Programmable Logic Controller

Learning Outcomes

After this course you will be equipped with the knowledge to write basic programs using the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) IEC61131-3 standard for an automated system, including:
  • Knowing the basic function of pneumatic and electric components in automation.
  • Reading, designing and constructing simple pneumatic circuits. With the use of the PLC, they will be able to control the pneumatic and motor drive circuits.

Lesson Plan

Learn about the Pneumatic and Electrical Drive Circuits of the Control System (2 hrs)
Learn how to program PLC IEC61131-3 using Ladder and Structured Text (7 hrs)
Integrate the PLC logic control with Pneumatic and Electrical Drive Circuits of the Control System (8 hrs)

Trainer's Profile

Ng Shi Ping

Ng Shi Ping is a senior lecturer with the School of Engineering of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She teaches automation and mechatronics systems. The engineer-turned-lecturer has over 10 years’ experience in doing machine development, which includes integrating sensors, pneumatic actuators, motion control cards, designing vision processing algorithm and finite state machines for mechanical motion. Shi Ping has been a full-time lecturer with the Polytechnic since 2014 teaching Industrial Automation, C programming, Microcontroller and interfacing, Electrical and Electronic Technology.

Goh Wee Tiong

Goh Wee Tiong is a senior lecturer with the School of Engineering of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He teaches automation and control systems.  Wee Tiong has been a full-time lecturer with the Polytechnic since 2007 teaching Industrial Automation, Instrumentation & Control Power Hydraulics

Certification

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).

A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement but did not pass all required assessment(s).

Entry Requirements

Applicants should preferably have basic logic circuit knowledge in electrical engineering.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 1 Apr 2018 to 30 Sep 2024.
