Course Information

This short course covers the theory and techniques for creating effective visualisations based on graphic design. Learners will apply these principles and techniques to create rich visualisations for analysis and presentation using widely popular tools e.g. Tableau.

Learning Outcomes

• Define data visualisation and its role in data analytics;
• Understand the various types and components of data visualisation;
• Explain and implement the principles of data visualisation;
• Develop graphs, charts and interactive visuals using enterprise tools;
• Develop maps to perform geospatial analysis;
• Apply the principles and techniques of data visualisation to solve real world problems.

Day 1: Introduction to Data Visualisation (8 hours)

Day 2: Working with Data in Tableau & Advanced Visualisations in Tableau I (8 hours)

Trainer's Profile

Kua Kee Chuah

Mr Kua Kee Chuah graduated from the Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) and also holds a Masters of Science in Accounting and Finance (Distinction) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Kee Chuah was a chartered accountant by profession and previously worked as a manager in Ernst and Young Singapore and USA offices, KPMG China and Standard Chartered Bank Singapore. He has been a full-time lecturer with the Polytechnic since 2013 and is currently holding the portfolio of Assistant Director, Student Life. His teaching portfolio includes business, financial, FinTech and analytics related modules. Kee Chuah also completed the General Assembly Data Science Immersive programme in 2020.

Entry Requirements

You are required to have working knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Students are required to bring their own laptop.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 12 Apr 2021 to 30 Sep 2024.
