Course Information

This course is targeted at front-liners, administrators and managers. It seeks to equip learners with in-demand skills to keep pace with rapidly evolving business needs and business transformation.

Learners will develop in-demand skills that are transferable across sectors and job roles, including Customer Experience Management, User-Experience Design, Digital and Data skills and Sustainability Management.

Given the rapid pace of automation and digitalisation and the resulting increase in demand for skills that cannot be easily replaced by technology, this course will also help learners to develop the Critical Core Skills most essential and relevant for front-liners, administrators and managers.

Essential Digital Skills for the Future Workplace
This module covers two skills which are essential for successful online business operations. These include skills in data analysis and digital marketing. Learners will be equipped to summarise and analyse data, perform predictive modelling and use data visualization tools to represent key findings, trends and insights to aid in data-driven decision-making processes. Through relevant and current case studies, learners will be also sensitized to the importance of ethical data-use and ethical data management. In addition, learners will also develop skills in digital marketing; including search engine optimization, social media management and online marketing and advertising.
The Rise of Fintech and Its Ecosystem
The Rise of FinTech and its Ecosystem module introduces learners to Financial Technology (FinTech) and provides them with insights to the FinTech revolution, disruption and innovation. It will enable them to appreciate the emergence and drivers of FinTech, discuss emerging trends such as the ESG fintech ecosystem and evaluate the opportunities and challenges of various Fintech applications. Topics covered include digital payments, cryptocurrencies, block chain technology and API economy.
Smart City Technologies
This module provides a behind-the-scenes look at some smart city applications implemented in Singapore and beyond. Learners will gain a better understanding of four significant emerging technologies and their impact on our daily work, lives and businesses. These include Robotics, Big Data & Internet of Things (IoT), Drone Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning. With the growing emphasis on Sustainable Smart Cities, the module will also look at the move towards Green IoT. Case studies, simulations, hands-on sessions, and on-site video footages will be used to enable better understanding of these technologies.

Sense Making in a Data-Driven Era
Data sensing is an emerging area that drives Industry 4.0. People trained to understand data and manage huge data collection can provide powerful insights and spot opportunities that impact and profit business and organizations they work for. This module aims to provide basic knowledge and practical skills that allows learners to handle data through simple analysis. It will involve processing and modelling data using visualization tools like bar graphs, charts and histograms. Learners will also acquire fundamental statistical concepts and build on this through working out real life data, turning it into meaningful and useful information. At the end of this module, learners should be able to understand simple statistics and apply basic statistical tools for analyzing data in businesses and industries. Key topics covered in the module include statistics, data organization, numerical descriptive measures and data visualization.
Human-Centred Design for Problem-Solving and Innovation
With the increasingly rapid pace of change and the susceptibility of all industries to disruption, honing the ability to think creatively and being adaptable to disruptive innovation are critical for an organization’s survival. Human-Centred Design offers a user-centric and innovative approach to problem-solving. This can in turn lead to the generation of effective and efficient solutions which challenge current assumptions or ways of working and lead to better outcomes for businesses and organisations. Using the Human-Centred Design framework, learners will be introduced to concepts such as empathy, opportunity spotting, ideation, prototyping and testing. This will be achieved through a practical approach featuring engaging out-of-classroom activities and a hands-on, “learning by doing” delivery format. In addition, learners will acquire the skills to convincingly pitch their ideas and generate solutions to influence their stakeholders.
Stakeholder Communication and Negotiation
The future workplace is characterised by rapid technological advancements and the growing proliferation of information and the interaction of people and ideas across boundaries. This results in the increasing importance of the ability to communicate effectively across social, cultural and cyberspaces. This module aims to equip learners with the communicative confidence required to communicate with and influence stakeholders effectively.

Harnessing the Power of Emerging Technologies
This module equips learners to identify the emerging and ever-evolving technologies and understand their impact on daily work, lives and businesses. These include technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, Big Data, Blockchain Technology, etc. In the process, they will evaluate the available technological tools and the possible means of deployment. Even as digital technologies bring about tremendous opportunities worldwide, there is also an increasing need to consider the importance of sustainable and inclusive digital transformation. This includes the mitigation of digital inequalities, ethical data use and leveraging technologies for responsible production and consumption and to bring about positive social impact.
Contemporary Trends in the Global Economy
This module explores the current issues and events of the global economy that are shaping our future locally and regionally. Some of the most important issues include global infrastructure and the need for sustainable development. Learners will better understand the importance of sustainable development goals (SDG) and environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) and how organisations are embracing these as important priorities for their businesses. The focus will be on understanding what individuals, companies and governments are doing to bring about environmental sustainability, economic sustainability, and inclusive societies.
Managing New Workforce Diversity
With workplaces becoming more diverse, organisations are increasingly placing importance on leveraging the benefits of diversity and managing the challenges that come with it. In this module, learners will learn about the benefits that diversity can unlock, what Unconscious Bias is, ways to mitigate Unconscious Bias and how organisations can promote behaviours and practices that foster diversity, equity and inclusion. They will also develop greater Cultural Intelligence and sensitivity to collaborate effectively with individuals with differing values, beliefs and behaviours across diverse groups.

Project Management For The Future Workplace
In this module, learners will be introduced to the concepts and techniques related to project management and team management for the future workplace. Topics will cover planning, scheduling, allocating resources, monitoring and controlling projects. They will gain an awareness of Agile Project Management and learn how to leverage various Project Management tool kits to manage projects. In addition, they will hone skills to manage relationships in the team and work collaboratively and effectively with team members to achieve shared goals.
Self and People Management
This module covers essential self and people management skills required by leaders in the rapidly evolving workplace, which is characterized by technological advancements, disruptions and workforce diversity. It prepares learners for their roles as responsible leaders with the ability to manage themselves and their teams effectively. The topics covered in this module include the fundamentals of people management, understanding and developing self and others, effective goal-setting, coaching and rapport building.
Customer Experience Management and Innovation
This module encourages learners to develop a customer-oriented mindset, sensitizing them to the rising expectations of customers in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Participants will develop and hone their skills in customer experience management and customer experience innovation. These include effective communication and problem-solving skills in identifying customer needs, closing deals and maintaining and managing customer relationships. In addition, they will also explore ways in which service delivery and customer experience may be enhanced, to generate a competitive advantage for their organisations.

Cyber Security in a Technologically Driven Era
This module helps learners to develop an awareness of cybersecurity threats and risks and apply appropriate risk management actions to protect the organization and respond to cybersecurity breaches. Learners will be better able to review the usage of digital technology tools, systems and software to identify and evaluate cybersecurity risks. It provides an overview of the various domains of Information Security and an appreciation of Information Security from an end-to-end perspective. It covers security in 7 domains: data, physical, system, network, software, end-user and organization.
Creative Content Development for the New Landscape Marketing
The module focuses on how content marketing can help brands showcase their philosophy, vision, products and services to drive profitable customer action. Learners will learn to craft brand stories and conceptualise various content types for a content marketing campaign. Learners will also learn how to use design and video tools to deliver effective online content to target audiences, including videos, blogs, infographics, landing pages, and other forms of online content.
Digital Media Fundamentals - Engaging the New Consumer
In this module, learners will be introduced to the basics of visual design, motion graphics and digital marketing that are necessary for creating visually appealing digital content. Learners will acquire knowledge about the tools and strategies required to create captivating visual content that can tell stories, convey messages, and grab the attention of the audience. They will also learn about visual design principles, techniques for manipulating and composing images, which will help them produce online content such as digital signage, social media posts, web-based graphics, online advertisements, and other forms of digital media.

Trainer's Profile

Christina Jimenez

Christina Jimenez holds a Master of Education Degree from the University of Melbourne as well as a Master of Mass Communication Degree from Nanyang Technological University.  

Her areas of expertise are in Marketing, Copywriting, Brand Storytelling, Creative Conceptualisation, Advertising, Public Relations, Learning and Development and Mass Communication. 

Prior to teaching, Christina worked in advertising agencies McCann Worldwide and JWT, where she created campaigns for brands under Jollibee, Coca-Cola, and Unilever. 

Currently, Christina is a Senior Education Specialist in the School of Film & Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She is also the Course Lead for the Part-time Diploma in Digital Communication at NP's CET Academy. She is passionate about using educational technologies in her teaching and learning practices and she strives to equip fellow educators with the skills and knowledge to use these technologies confidently and effectively.  

Loh Wai Tuck

Loh Wai Tuck graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and a Master of Technology (Software Engineering). 

Prior to teaching in the Polytechnic, Wai Tuck has 14 years of extensive experience in the software industry. He has worked in multiple IT projects (Geographical Information Systems, Office Automation projects and turnkey projects), undergoing the full software development life cycle. He was a senior consultant in Geographical Information Systems, and worked in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Germany and England. Wai Tuck has also worked in the corporate risk & review management division; he has conducted independent reviews on software development projects to identify risks (financial and legal risks) in projects, monitoring the project costs and delivery milestones. 

In Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Wai Tuck has taught various IT subjects (Database, Programming, IT applications like Photoshop and MS Office products) and Mathematics. In recent years, he has also taught short courses for adult learners in Data Science (using R programming language) and Data Analytics (using Excel, Tableau and R programming language) related courses. Wai Tuck was attached to GovTech Data Science & Artificial Intelligence division, where he was involved in data cleaning and data preparation using Python.

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

The following GCE ‘O’ Level grades and with at least 1 year of relevant work experience:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
