Provides knowledge and skills in solving DC network by using Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Law and Thevenin Theorem.

Provides the fundamental knowledge and skills to understand the principles and operations of AC systems and devices in the industry.

Basic Electronics & Applications
Covers the basics of electronic devices and some common applications. Equips participants with the ability to analyze and calculate the electrical parameters of diode and transistor circuits.

This hands-on intensive module enables the participants to design and build application projects based on digital electronics. It covers the fundamentals of digital electronics, and the basic principles and techniques of digital system design.

Provides training in the design and wiring of electrical control systems, using programmable logic controllers, control devices and relevant Windows-based programming control software.

Control System Formulation & Analysis
Introduces fundamentals of feedback control principles, automatic control concepts, control systems hardware, analytical tools and stability analysis of systems.

Sensors & Instrumentation System
Imparts the fundamental concepts of measurements, sensors and transducers, signal conditioning and data acquisition. Includes hands-on practice on sensors characterisation, build and test sensor circuits, and data acquisition using LabVIEW, a virtual instrumentation software.

Electrical Circuit Analysis*

Distribution System Design
Focuses on electrical installation design for residential, commercial and industrial premises to understand the electrical distribution in Singapore and the techniques used in the design.

Provides practical knowledge on high voltage (HV) distribution system (up to 22 kV), the electrical equipment used, the protection and safety schemes/devices implemented for the protection of both the equipment and working personnel.

You are required to complete 5 modular certificates within 5-year validity period to be awarded the Diploma qualification.


Entry Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

The following GCE ‘O’ Level grades and with at least 1 year of relevant work experience:
– English Language (Grade 1-7)
– Mathematics (Grade 1-6)
– Science (Grade 1-6)

OR NITEC with GPA >= 3.5
OR NITEC with GPA >= 3.0 and with at least 1 year of relevant work experience

OR Higher NITEC with GPA >= 2.0
OR Higher NITEC with GPA >= 1.5 and with at least 1 year of relevant work experience

OR NITEC in Technology or Services with GPA >= 3.5 and with at least 1 year of relevant working experience
OR Higher NITEC in Technology or Services with GPA >=2.0 and with at least 1 year of relevant working experience

OR relevant Advanced WSQ Certificate (or higher) and Level 6 WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA and Workplace Numeracy SOA and with at least 1 year of relevant working experience

OR applicants with at least 2 years of relevant working experience may apply for the course

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 16 Oct 2017 to 30 Sep 2024.

SkillsFuture Credit
This course is eligible for SkillsFuture Credit.
