Course Information

This short course introduces the student to the world of programming and problem-solving. Basics programming constructs such as conditionals, loops and functions will be covered. The course takes the lens of data analytics in the delivery of the programming concepts.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the programming development environment;
  • Apply basic language constructs to develop programmes;
  • Implement built-in and user-defined functions;
  • Create basic data visualisations through programming for data analysis;
  • Perform data engineering using programming libraries, including but not limited to numpy and pandas;
  • Develop basic Data Science applications using the programming language and libraries;

Trainer's Profile

Charis Tang

Charis has obtained a bachelor's degree in Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (NUS). and has also completed courses at SIM in fundamentals of programming and objected oriented programming. Charis also obtained training at Algoritma Data School (Jakarta) to learn data science in R and picked up Python through various other online courses. 

Charis' key domain is in Mathematics, Statistics, and programming for IT. She is also trained in Data Science.  

Charis has experience teaching students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Infocomm and Technology PET classes for 7 years and has also taught numerous adult learners over the past 3 years. She has experience teaching Statistics, Mathematics for Programming, Programming in C+ and Python, and Data Science in Python. Currently, Charis teaches “Specialist Diploma in Data Analytics” to full time students and “Programming Foundations for Analytics” to adult learners. 

Certification

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).


A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement but did not pass all required assessment(s).


Entry Requirements

You are required to have working knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Students are required to bring their own laptop.

Funding period for this course is from 7 Apr 2021 to 30 Sep 2024.
