Course Information

Aim of programme:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to undertake the following:

  • Be ready to take the Google certification exam in Associate Cloud Engineer, and Google Cloud Architect.
  • Learn to design, develop, and manage robust, secure, scalable, highly available, and dynamic solutions to drive business objectives.
  • Learn to be proficient in all aspects of enterprise cloud strategy, solution design, and architectural best practices.
  • Learn software development methodologies and approaches including multi-tiered distributed applications which span multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Be prepared as Cloud Architects and/or as Associate Cloud Engineers in the shortest possible time to undertake the pressing challenges facing the Cloud Computing industry as data usage proliferates ubiquitously in Singapore and the world.

Course outline:

  1. Networking and IT Infrastructure – 45 hours

This module covers topics such as network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, and security fundamentals. Students will learn how to install, operate, configure, maintain, and verify basic IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The module covers configuring network components such as switches, routers, and wireless LAN controllers; managing network devices; troubleshooting network problems; identifying basic security threats; and implementing network security, standards, and protocols.

2. Windows and Linux Server Administration – 60 hours

This module covers the latest server technologies including virtualization, security, network-attached storage, and disaster recovery. Students will learn about the concepts and technologies of Windows Server administration, Windows-based networking, Active Directory, account management, and system recovery tools and concepts. Students will also learn about common tasks in major distributions of Linux, including the Linux command line, basic maintenance, installing and configuring workstations, security, Linux troubleshooting & diagnostics, networking, and automation and scripting.

3. Google Cloud Foundation – 16 hours

Participants learn the value of Google Cloud Platform and how to incorporate cloud-based solutions into business strategies.

4. Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer – 40 hours

Introduces participants to the comprehensive and flexible infrastructure and platform services provided by Google Cloud Platform, with a focus on Compute Engine. Through a combination of presentations, demos, and hands-on labs, participants explore and deploy solution elements, including infrastructure components such as networks, systems, and application services. This course also covers deploying practical solutions including securely interconnecting networks, customer-supplied encryption keys, security and access management, quotas and billing, and resource monitoring.

5. Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect – 24 hours

Participants will understand cloud architecture and Google technology, and learn how to design, develop, and manage robust, secure, scalable, highly available, and dynamic solutions to drive business objectives. The Cloud Architect should be proficient in all aspects of enterprise cloud strategy, solution design, and architectural best practices such as software development methodologies and approaches including multi-tiered distributed applications which span multi-cloud or hybrid environments.

Course duration: 185 hours (inclusive of 10 hours of online assessment)

  • 10 hours of online assessments
  • Assessments include:
    • For each module, there will be 1 hour of summative assessment via test
    • 1 hour each of formative assessments that will include group project work and discussion to apply the theory taught in class.
    • Discussions and presentations (individual/group)
  • After the program, within a one-month period, learners will attempt the Google certification exams at their own expense.

Lesson Plan

1. Networking and IT Infrastructure – 45 hours

Certification

Google Certification examination

There are two Google certification exams that learners are highly encouraged to sign up and undertake at the end of the course.

After the programme, within a one-month period, or at the earliest scheduled exam availability, learners are strongly encouraged to sign up at their own expense, the two following Google certification exams:


• Google Cloud Certified – Associate Cloud Engineer

• Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect


Exam booking guidelines will be given to the students during class sessions by the trainers.


Note:

Associate certifications – Assesses the fundamental skills to deploy and maintain cloud projects.

Professional certification – Assesses key technical job functions and advanced skills in design, implementation and management of Google Cloud products.


Entry Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

Qualifications in Information and Digital Technologies, and/or Engineering at minimum ITE Nitec/Higher Nitec. Other disciplines will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Learners are required to submit a copy of their resume when they apply for this course. Please also note that your resume will also be shared with the appointed training partner as part of the job placement process.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 28 April 2023 to 30 September 2024.

SkillsFuture Credit
