Course Objectives
On completion of the course, the learners should be able to:•  identify common problems in the mother and infant after delivery;
•  demonstrate competence in the basic care of mother and infant;
•  provide support, care and/or health teaching to the breastfeeding mother and infant;
•  handle the infant safely;
•  initiate first aid care immediately after an injury; and
•  communicate effectively with the mother and family members through the use of verbal and/or non-verbal channels.
Course Description
The course aims to improve care practices and service standards for mothers and infants during the post-delivery period up to four to six weeks. It provides formalized training for 500 in-service employees from 15 active confinement and nanny agencies in Singapore, leading to better job satisfaction and career opportunities.The training includes teaching-learning activities on changes in the mother’s body after delivery; providing basic care for mothers and infants such as perineum care and infant bathing; identifying and assisting in managing common conditions after delivery; educating and supporting breastfeeding; and providing first aid care after an injury.
The course is also open to mid-career individuals seeking transition opportunities and women returning to the workforce, offering various options in the Care Economy with salaries ranging from S$3,000 to S$5,000 per month based on experience. Additionally, the course caters to caregivers who want to learn how to care for their own family members.
Trainer's Profile
Siti Radiah Binte Rifa'i
Siti Radiah is a dedicated nursing educator with a strong focus on paediatric, obstetric and gynaecology, and palliative care nursing. With a Specialist Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education, a Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing), and an Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Paediatrics), she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching role.
Siti has been a polytechnic lecturer since 2013, where she specialises in educating future nurses in paediatric and general nursing. Her teaching is deeply informed by her clinical background, which included over a decade of experience in paediatric nursing and three years in Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G). This diverse clinical experience enables her to provide students with practical insights and real-world applications of their theoretical learning.
In the classroom, she is known for her commitment to student engagement and the development of critical thinking skills. She is passionate about preparing the next generation of nurses to provide high-quality care, particularly in the fields of paediatrics and general nursing, where their expertise truly shines.
Siti’s approach to education is rooted in evidence-based practice and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by both paediatric individuals and their families. Her dedication to continuous professional development and excellence in teaching ensures that her students are well-prepared to meet the demands of today’s healthcare environment.
Sivaneswary Palanibilo
Sivaneswary is a senior lecturer at the School of Health Sciences, where she also serves as the Overseas Programme (OSP) Senior Manager and Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) coordinator. She holds a Master’s in Science (Nursing Practice), Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Post-Basic Certificate in Midwifery Nursing. Her extensive background as a nurse educator at a private medical centre and her diverse working experiences across three different countries as a nurse equip her with a unique and valuable perspective in her field.
She is dedicated to empowering future nurses and fostering excellence in nursing education. She is committed to adhering to evidence-based guidelines and hospital policies with a passion for high standards of nursing care for mothers and babies. Her approach to teaching is both transformative and inspiring, guiding students towards improved care outcomes for their clients. She teaches full-time and part-time nursing and healthcare-related courses .
In her role, she designs and implements innovative educational strategies that cater to the diverse needs of her students. She collaborates with international partners to enhance the learning experience through overseas programmes and personalised learning pathways. She stays abreast of the latest advances in nursing education and practice.
