This certificate provides comprehensive coverage of IT infrastructure, server administration, cybersecurity fundamentals, and AI-enhanced security techniques. The curriculum integrates traditional security principles with modern technological approaches.

Course Description

Specialist Diploma in Computing

The Specialist Diploma in Computing is a comprehensive part-time program that provides strong foundational knowledge in core computing concepts while offering specialized tracks in Software Engineering, Analytics, and Cybersecurity. The program comprises two Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs): a mandatory foundational PDC in Advanced Software Development & Computing Systems, followed by a specialization PDC in either Software Development Practice, Analytics and Data Visualization, or Server Administration and IT Networking.

All learners will first complete a common core Post-Diploma Certificate in Advanced Software Development & Computing Systems. This foundational certificate builds essential knowledge in programming, computing infrastructure, and database systems.
After completing the core, learners will progress to one of three specialisation tracks:

- Software Engineering (300 hours)
Gain practical skills in cloud computing, software quality assurance, and DevSecOps.

- Analytics (300 hours)
Focus on analytics, AI applications, and effective data storytelling.

- Cybersecurity (330 hours)
Deepen expertise in server and network administration, cybersecurity fundamentals, and AI for cyber defence.

Post-Diploma Certificate in Server Administration and IT Networking (Part of Specialist Diploma in Computing)

This foundational certificate provides comprehensive coverage of core computing concepts, encompassing advanced programming methodologies, computing systems architecture, and database management principles. The curriculum integrates theoretical frameworks with practical applications in software development, infrastructure management, and data systems administration.

Specialist Diploma in Computing (Cybersecurity)

Post-Diploma Certificate in Advanced Software Development & Computing Systems
Computing Systems & Infrastructure Management (NP-SCSIM)
This module covers essential topics in computer systems and technology, including the components of computer hardware (processors, memory, storage, I/O devices), various types of software (operating systems like Windows, Linux, macOS, and applications), and important networking concepts (topologies, protocols, devices).

It explores the role of operating systems in managing hardware, introduces virtualization technologies, cloud computing services and deployment models. The module also covers the design, operation, and management of data centers, alongside cybersecurity principles, including common threats and protective measures. By the end, students will gain a well-rounded understanding of computer systems, networking, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
Database Systems & Management (NP-SDSM)
This module first gives an overview of key knowledge and skills in databases. This includes areas such as analysis of data needs, modelling of relationships between data entities, normalization techniques, database creation and manipulation, as well as utilizing the SQL (structured query language).
The module will then introduce analysis, design, and implementation of cloud database models to support polyglot-persistence architecture for modern software applications, and data management life cycle. An overview of the latest cloud storage models and techniques (such as document and graph databases), and various database systems (such as NoSQL database, parallel and distributed databases) will be provided.
In addition, students are exposed to denormalization and data partitioning strategies for designing and implementing such systems. The module also provides an insight into migrating data onto cloud databases.
Programming Methodology & Algorithms (NP-SPMA)
This module covers the key programming concepts and constructs, followed by allowing students to gain exposure to different approaches and paradigms in programming such as the object- oriented approach.
Next, students will be exposed to use of various data structures (such as queues and stacks) and basic algorithms such as recursion, insertion and sorting.
The module may then introduce students to network programming, whereby they may understand the TCP/IP protocol stack, its protocols, followed by socket programming. Students may also look into Web programming, dealing with HTTP.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Server Administration and IT Networking
AI tools & techniques for Cybersecurity (NP-0613AITTC)
The AI tools & techniques for Cybersecurity module trains students on various cybersecurity related AI tools & techniques used by the industry. Students will learn how to setup, configure, train, execute, operate, and manage these AI tools & techniques to harden security, detect cyber-attacks, respond to cyber incidents, and restore normal operations.

This module is assessed by coursework.
Cybersecurity Fundamentals (NP-013343)
The Cybersecurity Fundamentals module covers baseline skills needed to perform core cybersecurity functions. It provides an overview of the various domains of cyber security and the essential principles of network security; compliance and operational Security; threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities; application, data and host security; access control and integrity management; and cryptography and PKI.
Networking & IT Infrastructure (NP-013340)
The Networking & IT Infrastructure module covers topics such as network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, and security fundamentals. Students will learn how to install, operate, configure, maintain, and verify basic IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The module covers configuring network components such as switches, routers, and wireless LAN controllers; managing network devices; troubleshooting network problem; identifying basic security threats; and implementing network security, standards, and protocols.
Windows & Linux Server Administration (NP-013341)
The Windows & Linux Server Administration module covers the latest server technologies including virtualization, security, network-attached storage, and disaster recovery. Students will learn about the concepts and the technologies of Windows Server administration, Windows-based networking, Active Directory, account management, and system recovery tools and concepts. Students will also learn about common tasks in major distributions of Linux, including the Linux command line, basic maintenance, installing and configuring workstations, security, Linux troubleshooting & diagnostics, networking, and automation and scripting.
