Course Objectives

The Specialist Diploma in Sustainable Facilities Management aims support the SkillsFuture Work-Study initiatives, for polytechnic graduates to deepen their skills in Facilities Management through post-diploma continuing education and training.

Course Description

The Specialist Diploma in Sustainable Facilities Management is a part-time CET course, consist of the following modules:
1. Applied Property Management (45 hrs)
2. Building Services Management (45 hrs)
3. Fire Safety Management (45 hrs)
4. Green Building Management (45 hrs)
5. Workplace Health & Risk Management (60 hrs)
6. Facilities Management Technologies and Practices (60 hrs)

Trainer's Profile

Andrew Ng Jui Sing

Andrew Ng Jui Sing graduated from the Newcastle Upon Tyne with a Bachelor in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Master of Science in Environment Engineering from NTU. He also holds the WDA Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment.

Andrew has been a full-time lecturer with the Polytechnic since 2009 at the School of Design & Environment. He has taught in various fields in WSH, Environmental Management Systems, Environmental Health Management and Project Management. He is involved in work related to in-house safety training and WSH audits in the school. In terms of continuing education for adult learners, he specialises in WSH training courses at the CET Academy in NP. He was the former course coordinator cum trainer in the Specialist Diploma in WSH.

Andrew is also an active EHSQ Management System Auditor since 2000 and has been supporting various industries ranging from Aerospace, Building & Construction, Chemical, Electronics, Food, Healthcare, Logistics, Manufacturing, Marine, Petrochemical, and Waste industries, both local and overseas.

Specialist Diploma in Sustainable Facilities Management

Facilities Management Technologies and Practice (NP-013614)
This module emphasis the role of facility management practitioners in the upstream design processes to optimise building design for more efficient and cost-effective operation and maintenance activities. The concepts of Design for Maintainability (DfM) for MEP systems, Smart FM, IDD for FM and the knowledge of Outcome-Based for contracts and the requirement and life cycle costing will be covered.
Green Building Management (NP-013612)
In this module, students will be equipped with the knowledge in green building design to address the issue of climate change. This will include study of Green Mark Assessment set by the regulatory authority, the application of passive and active green technologies to optimize building systems operation, indoor environmental quality, and energy management, energy audit and the appraisal of energy efficient projects.
Workplace Health & Risk Management (NP-013613)
This module focuses on workplace safety, hazards and risk management for different organizations and physical environment. Participants will learn to apply appropriate risk assessment and management techniques and hazard control measures.

In this module, students will learn property management skills including management and maintenance of properties, general accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, arrears management, incident management, tenancy agreements, contracts management, tendering & procurement process and, interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills. The management of strata titles, management of strata-titled properties will also be taught.

This module covers the management and operation of all the engineering systems that are installed in the built environment.
This will include the management and operation of the air-conditioning, lighting, elevator, electrical and water supply systems with emphasis in environmental sustainability and optimizing cost-effectiveness.
